BROAD STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Business Systems Analyst is responsible for helping Kent ISD and its partner districts gather, organize, and analyze educational data to improve systems and student outcomes. This work includes building/refining data sets for ingestion into data reporting and analysis tools, as well as creating data visualizations and business intelligence reports.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist partner districts organize, clean, and load datasets into the Our School Data platform.
  2. Assist partner districts in troubleshooting and remediating data issues that impact the loading and reporting of student performance.
  3. Design new data visualization using tools such as SQL Reporting Services, Power BI and Tableau.
  4. Design extensions to Our School Data that allow for improved data collection and reporting functionality.
  5. Assist student services and MiPSE teams with special education data sets.
  6. Complete unit, function, and system testing as needed.
  7. Troubleshoot systems if outages occur.
  8. Work as directed and under minimum supervision.
  9. Ability to travel to partner districts across the State.
  10. Periodically work after hours in support for testing and troubleshooting, as needed.
  11. Effectively manage system documentation for disaster recovery purposes.
  12. Takes direction, effectively performing assigned work as directed without direct supervision at all times.
  13. Maintain confidentiality (FERPA).
  14. Effectively communicate, both written and in person, with Kent ISD and constituent district staff.
  15. Collaboration with colleagues and vendors to achieve Departmental or project outcomes.
  16. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments with competing priorities, while maintaining attention to details.
  17. Consistently demonstrate professional judgement and discretion, seeking guidance as appropriate.
  18. Commitment to quality customer service with both internal and external constituents.
  19. Adhere to cybersecurity safeguards and protocols.
  20. Regular and consistent employee attendance.
  21. Adhere to departmental processes and procedures, as well as Board policies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Information Technology or related field.
  2. Minimum of three years of working in Information Technology in an educational environment.
  3. Knowledge of education data system such as student information and assessment systems.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively (written, graphically and verbal).
  5. Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, process, manipulate and organize the information necessary to make informed decisions.
  6. Ability to perform project management, data validation and related duties as assigned with minimal supervision.
  7. Ability to perform the requirements of the job while maintaining confidentiality (FERPA).
  8. Understanding of ETL programming.
  9. Understanding of relational and dimensional data models.
  10. Experience with data reporting tools such as SSRS, Excel, Power BI and Tableau.
  11. Effectively and efficiently conduct work via time management, organizational skills and attention to detail.
  12. Excellent customer service skills.
  13. Available to periodically work after hours in support for testing and troubleshooting.
  14. Able to collaborate with colleagues and vendors.
  15. Timely and effective communication, both verbal and written.
