Part Time, .6 FTE, 150 days per year   

Non-Union Classified hourly, Grade 4

7.5 hours per day   

 

BROAD STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Through a unique partnership with local college partners and Kent ISD, the Early Middle College mentor works with high school students in the Launch U program to monitor student progress, develop college and career readiness skills, and facilitate communication between stakeholders.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Monitor student academic progress and communicate with parents to assure student success.
  2. Help students, when needed, to find other assistive services (such as students with IEPs or section 504 plans, tutoring, wrap around services, etc.).
  3. Act as a liaison between students and the following: parents, college instructors, high school counselors, and college staff and services.
  4. Contribute to the development and delivery of career readiness activities for students.
  5. Assist marketing efforts of Launch U to Local Education Agencies (LEAs), parents, prospective students, and local employer champions.
  6. Report progress and student updates to the Launch U Principal and Coordinator.
  7. Attend conferences, training, and other meetings regarding Launch U as needed and directed.
  8. Promote a positive school climate and engage students in their learning through dialogue and positive interactions in the classroom.
  9. Guide remedial and tutorial instruction with students identified as needing additional help with course content.
  10. Consult and meet with the instructional staff, student support services team, and administration to ensure that the students receive appropriate support services at the local district, college, and Kent ISD Launch U settings.
  11. Participate in the intervention process by monitoring student progress, initiating and implementing strategies, and further support as part of a team.
  12. Support pupil accounting procedures with communication and documentation.
  13. Maintain a safe learning environment and monitor student behavior to maximize learning in the classroom, testing center, and in the online environment.
  14. Assist the Launch U team with social media, newsletters, and website updates.
  15. Participate in special events and/or evening activities that celebrate Launch U students or promote the Launch U program.
  16. Engage in other duties as assigned by the Launch U Principal or Coordinator.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIRED: 

  1. Two (2) years of college education in education or related areas is preferred. 
  2. Demonstrated ability to effectively work with students from diverse backgrounds.
  3. Strong communication/interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, parents, teachers, staff, LEAs, etc.
  4. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention; also, ability to organize, prioritize and work independently as well as schedule and produce work in a timely manner.
  5. Ability to assist and support a student’s development of responsible behaviors while in the school environment.
  6. Ability to interpret, analyze, and communicate student performance data to staff, administration, and other stakeholders.
  7. Excellent computer skills: Must be able to work efficiently and effectively within Microsoft Office Suite and must be able to learn web-based applications related to the Launch U program.
