BROAD STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Music Teacher is responsible for the planning and successful delivery of music instruction to students in accordance with the mission, vision, philosophy and policies of Kent ISD Center Programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans and implements creative, organized and engaging lessons in alignment with state and national standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
- Teaches fundamental principles of music and musicianship skills, such as music theory and basic notation
- Conveys enthusiasm and excitement for music to students to help instill them with a desire to learn
- Balances and maintains instrument inventory.
- Effectively builds a positive and responsive classroom culture
- Designs and implements cross-curricular units of study that effectively integrate literacy instruction and utilize active pedagogy
- Differentiate instruction to support all students in the learning process
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the educational environment.
- Communicates with parents and school staff on student progress.
- Confers with other classroom teachers and related service personnel concerning any educational needs of the students served in the program.
- Attends staff development programs, curriculum development meetings, and other professional activities.
- Serve as a member of the school’s PBIS team.
- Works with school teams in supporting behavior through FBA’s and PBSP’s
- Regular, reliable and punctual attendance is an essential function of the job.
- Performs other duties as directed by Administrator/Principal.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Must possess a valid Michigan teaching certificate with an endorsement in music education.
- Three years prior music experience, preferred.
- Demonstrated experience working with students with disabilities, preferred.
- Have musical instrument proficiency, a strong background in music theory and musicianship and basic piano skills.
- Ability to communicate informational ideas in spoken and written language for clear understanding.
- Willingness to participate in all phases of the instructional program.
- Ability to work constructively with parents, students and staff.
- Non-violent Crisis Intervention certification
- Must pass criminal background check as required by School Safety Legislation.

Salary: Per KIEA Master Agreement/ Commensurate with education and experience (BA Step 1-5 = $51,106-$61,927/year; BA+18 Step 1-5 = $54,644-$64,531/year; MA Step 1-5 = $57,766-68,695/year; MA+15 Step 1-5 = $60,370-$71,821/year; MA+MA,MA+30 Step 1-5 = $62,972-$74,423/year).
